Vera Control Smart Home UI Firmware 7.0.29 Released

Last August, smart home device maker eZLO acquired MiOS, the maker of the popular Vera home automation hubs. Since then, product and software updates have been slow coming, but today that changed.

Today, for the first time since MiOS was acquired, a Vera software update was released. There’s nothing groundbreaking in this release, but it sets the stage for more to come. The update includes a number of newly integrated smart devices, some minor improvement – mostly related to WiFi connectivity, and a ton of bug fixes.

The update includes native support for various devices from the following brands.

  • 2GIG
  • Bosch
  • Fibaro
  • Fortrezz
  • GoControl
  • Horus
  • Linear
  • MCO Home
  • NuTone
  • Philio
  • Sengled
  • Stelpro
  • Zooz

Perhaps the biggest surprise with this software release is that it is only for Vera Edge, Vera Plus, and Vera Secure. The older Vera devices such as Vera Lite and Vera 3 aren’t exactly being killed off, but eZLO will be focusing on only developing for the newer hardware versions. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since the older devices have barely had the necessary memory to accept firmware updates for a couple of years now.

There’s one additional update that didn’t quite make it into this firmware release. Engineers at eZLO have confirmed that native Google Home integration is ready at this point and is just awaiting approval from the Google to link with the platform. It’s not clear how long that approval will take, but this is a huge step for getting Vera back to a top-tier home automation system.

Brad Parker: Hi, my name's Brad Parker and I'm a software engineer by trade, with more than 20 years of experience in developing software and websites. I've got an incredible wife and two rambunctious boys under 3 years old. All of them are getting used to my experiments with smart devices, voice assistants, and home automation. Growing up surrounded by the Internet of Things, my boys will never think it's surprising that you can just say "OK Google, Good Night" and the garage will close, doors lock, and the lights turn off. They'll only know that as long as they can remember, whenever they first walk into the kitchen in the morning, the lights will turn on dimly and they'll hear the weather and a recap of yesterday's news. That's what seamless smart home automation is about, and it's why I created Upgrade Your Space.
